Learner Driver FAQ’s
Driving Frequently Asked Questions
Here you’ll find everything you need to know about learning to drive, but if there are any questions or concerns please contact us and we would be more than happy to help.
Why don't you post pictures of your successful passes?
Although it's unlikely to happen, we have seen others exploiting these photos by other driving instructors claiming that the pupil passed with them or from some scammers pretending to be a driving school. So for the protection of our pupils we don't post these photos. However, we don't restrict this with our franchisees. They may post photos of successful passes provided they have gotten consent. These photos can be taken down at any time, just ask your instructor if you no longer wish for it to be in the public domain. Please remember to leave us a review as this will really help us in our success.
WHERE WILL I BE PICKED UP FROM?
The majority of our driving instructors will pick pupils up from their home. Please note that alternate addresses like work, or college can be arranged with advanced notice
DO YOU TEACH PEOPLE OF ALL AGES?
Driving is not just for the young so why not talk to us about our lessons to get you on the road. Our highly trained instructors are patient and here to help you pass your driving test and give you the freedom you deserve.
WHERE DO I BOOK MY THEORY TEST?
You can go on https://www.gov.uk/book-theory-test and search for a time, date and test centre to suit you.
WHAT DO I NEED BEFORE MY FIRST DRIVING LESSON?
You will need a Provisional Driving Licence. This will need to be shown your Driving Instructor on your first lesson. (Allow 3 weeks from your Provisional Driving Licence application form, for it to arrive – although it could be less). Keep it safe because you will also need it for both the theory and practical Driving Tests. You will also need to be able to read a car number plate at 20.5 meters.
Do I need to pass the Theory Test before I can start my driving lessons?
Legally, no, you do not have to pass your theory test before you start taking driving lessons. You have to pass your theory test before you can take your practical test. But all you need to start driving lessons is a provisional driving licence.
Do I get to choose a time slot that is better for me?
When you register with PassCow Driving School, we will ask you to indicate a preferred time for your lessons and will then try to provide lessons at this time where possible.
Is there a charge for cancellations?
If you give 48 hours’ notice prior to the lesson, no cancellation fee will be asked for. Otherwise, a cancellation fee will be sought.
How many driving lessons will I need to take?
Driving Standards Agency research shows that the current average is 45 hours of tuition, with an additional 22 hours private practice to pass. Your instructor will give you an idea of how long you are likely to need after your first lesson. You can help keep this low by taking two-hour lessons and following our easy tips for practice with parents or relatives.
What is the cheapest way of booking my lessons?
You can cut the cost of learning to drive by taking advantage of block booking discounts.
How often should I have my lessons?
How often you have your lessons is entirely up to you. We recommends at least 1 session of 2 hours per week (subject to availability).
